-Wendell Berry
I'm a contemplative and joyful mixed media artist and enthusiastic art teacher based in Wisconsin. I have been an artist for my whole life but it took the encouragement of people around me to see myself as an artist. That encouragement changed my life and woke up my passion for making art and teaching art that has become my life's work.
Art making has always been my sanctuary—a space where I can slow down, listen, play, heal, explore, learn and find a deeper connection to myself and the world.
In my art practice, I love exploring and playing with color, pattern, heartfelt stories, old textiles, slow stitching, words, poetry, nature, expressive painting, mixed media, mindful collage, nostalgia, emotions, memories, wonder and joy.
Creative expression is very healing and nurturing for me and has supported me throughout my life with my mental and emotional health. I incorporate mindfulness and self-reflection into my art practice and teaching and love learning about the science of creativity and how it impacts our brains, emotions, bodies and overall well-being.
I went to college for Studio Art and Philosophy at Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and fell in love with deep questions blending with creative expression when I was there that still is at the heart of who I am and how I make art and teach others.
I have been teaching visual arts for 10+ years to adults and kids of all ages. I have taught in museums, art centers, after school programs, community education centers, libraries and through partnerships with other artists and educators. I began teaching creative expressive writing 6 years ago to adults and love to weave writing and visual arts practices together to support well-being.
I'm sober, Buddhist, a Licensed Massage Therapist and a Highly Sensitive Person too.
Thank you so much for being here and exploring my creative world! I hope you find something that inspires you today.
