Gathered Word Pack for Art Journaling & Mixed Media Art

A soulful collection of 12 pages full of positive words I have gathered that you can cut out and use to inspire you in art journaling, mixed media, found poetry and creative play. Each word is a catalyst—inviting connection, wonder and intuitive expression. Slow down and let your hands follow your heart as you make something new —one luminous word at a time.

I love words so much. I love to cut them out of magazines, write in my journal, listen to words that people choose to say and read and write poetry. I also love to underline words in books and ponder the meaning of words. When it comes to being an artist, words play a big role in what I create. I have a container of words I have cut from magazines so I can pull some out and play with them. This collection is from that pile of words!

I made this collection of positive, evocative, creative words by sitting with magazines in my art studio and cutting out the ones that spoke to me. I use them in my own art journaling and mixed media work and wanted to share them with you!

The pack includes 12 pages of gathered words that are ready to be printed, cut out, and used in your own art practice. Use them for art journaling, mixed media play, found poetry, on altars or in any other way you feel inspired to!

Here are some of the ways I've used them in my own art practice:

Hi, I'm Emma Freeman!

I'm a contemplative and joyful mixed media artist and enthusiastic art teacher based in Wisconsin. I have been an artist for my whole life. I remember loving colors, patterns and fashion from a young age, picking out fun outfits for myself as a child in the ways I still do now in my mid-40's. I loved decorating my room too and had a very encouraging and creative mom who gave me and my siblings opportunities to join theatre, dance and visual arts experiences from an early age.

I had amazing art teachers in elementary and high school who encouraged me to be creative and learn to express myself in positive ways. I was in choir, dance and theatre throughout my childhood too!

I went to college for Studio Art and Philosophy at Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and have worked in the arts in a variety of roles throughout my life.

I fell in love with teaching after living in Shanghai, China where I taught 3rd grade at an international school. After that, I got the opportunity to teach visual arts to kids and adults through classes, camps, workshops and retreats as part of after school programs and at art centers, museums, community education centers and through partnerships with other art educators. I have been teaching art for 10+ years and it is one of the greatest joys of my life!

Art making has always been my sanctuary—a space where I can slow down, listen, play, explore and find a deeper connection to myself and the world. I love meeting people who love art too, it's one of my favorite topics to talk about.

In my art practice, I love exploring and playing with color, pattern, stories, textiles, slow stitching, words, poetry, nature, painting, collage, nostalgia, emotions, memories, wonder and joy.

Creative expression is healing for me and has supported me throughout my life with my mental and emotional health. I incorporate mindfulness and self-reflection into my art practice and teaching and love learning about the science of creativity and how it impacts our brains, emotions, bodies and overall well-being.

I'm sober, Buddhist, a Licensed Massage Therapist and a Highly Sensitive Person too.

Thank you so much for being here and exploring my creative world! I hope you find something that inspires you today.
