Materials
You can use a variety of materials in this class. You will want to gather at least some of these to experiment with:
Paper scraps: handmade, old papers work beautifully and already hold wabi sabi energy but you can also use any other kinds of papers you have)
Fabric scraps: any are fine to use that you are drawn to. I love to use old fabrics from Japan and India and also naturally dyed linens and cottons but please feel free to use anything you like.
Threads: again, any kind and color you are drawn to work well. I'll be using Japanese sashiko and Kogin embroidery threads as well as some naturally dyed linen and cotton threads.
Fibers like yarn or twine
Stamp Pad: I'll be using the VersaFine brand but you can use any.
Inks: I'll be using natural inks and black India ink but you can use any fluid inks.
Natural materials: stones, leaves, flowers, feathers...anything you are drawn to (watch the video on gathering materials and the one on taking a wabi sabi walk for ideas)
Brushes: I'll be using Japanese calligraphy brushes and calligraphy dip pens
Journal and Pen
LINKS TO WHERE I BUY THE SUPPLIES I SHARE IN THE VIDEO:
Mexican amate bark paper : it comes in different colors and patterns but the two I showed in the video are the natural and black. This indigo blue is also beautiful. This Etsy shop has a lot to choose from or just search for "Mexican amate paper" on Etsy and many options will come up.
Nepalese loktah paper: I get mine from Kathmandu Valley Company here on Etsy and also this shop. I buy their journals and notebooks through their Amazon store. I love the Nepali Keeper to use for writing and as a sketchbook. I use the 6"x9" size.
Japanese rice paper, I use the Yasutomo 9x12 you can get here.
Calligraphy dip pens: bamboo reed pen and Speedball pen with nibs
Natural inks: iron gall ink and acorn iron ink. This is a great Etsy shop that has a variety of natural inks to choose from.
Vintage Japanese calligraphy brushes: I just search on Etsy for these and find them in a variety of shops link this one.
Threads: Japanese sashiko and Kogin threads I buy here. Hand spun naturally dyed Bengal threads I buy from Maiwa here.
Fibers: Tibetan yak down yarn from LoveFest Fibers and hand spun organic nettle yarn are two of my favorites.
Fabrics: Vintage kantha blanket remnants from India, vintage Japanese kaya mosquito netting from this Etsy shop or I just search on Etsy for "Japanese kaya" or "Japanese mosquito netting", vintage mud cloth from Mali from this Etsy shop and from African Fabric Shop.
