Hi, I'm Emma Freeman!

I'm a contemplative mixed media artist, poet and enthusiastic art teacher. I love color, texture, pattern, nature, beauty and authentic expression through art making.

I began making art when I was a child. I had an amazing art teacher in elementary school and a mom who is very artsy and creative. I was in theatre from a young age and loved to sing in choir and dance. I loved textiles from early on too and would create eclectic outfits that I loved (and still do that!). I would also decorate my room in specific colors that I had very strong opinions about!

I went on to fall in love with photography in high school in the 1990's, spending hours in the darkroom developing film and watching images emerge. From there, I studied Studio Art and Philosophy in college, loving the opportunity to explore printmaking, painting, figure drawing, ceramics, art history and more.

After college, I started my own art business as a professional photographer while working for other professional artists, in galleries and art schools.

Over many years, I continued to learn new mediums including illustration, jewelry making, greeting card design, web design, mixed media techniques, cyanotype and more. I slowly started teaching what I loved to kids and adults through my own business and through partnerships with museums, schools, art centers, non-profits and with other wonderful artists.

One of my favorite things in the world is connecting with people through creativity. I love to ooo and ahhh over art that people make, it gives me so much joy and inspiration!

I have learned that when I choose to make space for myself to explore, play, create, reflect, and feel through art making, surprising and empowering things unfold. I discover new aspects of myself, I expand and grow, I connect with the world in beautiful ways and I feel more balanced, peaceful, calm, nourished and fulfilled. It is from this place that I create all of my offerings. They all emerge from my own creative practice and life's journey as an artist.

Thank you for being here, I hope you find something that touches your heart and inspires your own journey as an artist!
